Terms of Use

These terms cover playing Waddleton in the browser at waddleton.pages.dev, and will also cover the mobile app once it ships. By playing, you agree to them. They're short, because the game is free and there's not much to argue about.

Playing is free

Waddleton is free to play and there are no advertisements. Every mini-game, room and feature is available without paying, and Snowflakes — the currency almost the whole shop is priced in — are earned only by playing.

Optional purchases

When the mobile app ships, you'll be able to optionally buy Goldfish, a premium currency, and subscribe to the Waddleton Club. Both are optional and cosmetic: they buy decorative items, they do not make anyone better at a mini-game, and nothing about the leaderboards changes if you buy them. Purchases are not available in the browser version.

• Goldfish are consumable. They're added to the penguin on the device that bought them, are spent when you use them, and are not restorable once spent.
• No real-world value. Goldfish and Snowflakes cannot be sold, cashed out, transferred between penguins, or exchanged for anything outside the game. We may adjust how they're earned and what things cost as the game changes.
• Payment is handled by the App Store or Google Play, never by us — we never see or store your payment details. Refunds are theirs to give, under their policies.
• If a purchase doesn't arrive, reopen the app: the game re-checks the store on every launch and credits anything outstanding. "Restore Purchases" in the Goldfish screen does the same on demand.
• Purchases are tied to the store account that made them, and the penguin lives on the device — see "Your penguin" below. Family Sharing / Ask to Buy and your device's purchase controls work normally, and we'd encourage parents to turn them on.

Waddleton Club (auto-renewing subscription)

The Waddleton Club is an auto-renewing monthly subscription. Members get a monthly Goldfish allowance, a doubled daily login bonus, and access to Club-only cosmetic items.

• The price and renewal period are shown in the app before you buy, in your own currency, exactly as your store reports them.
• Payment is charged to your App Store or Google Play account at confirmation.
• The subscription renews automatically at the same price unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
• You can manage or cancel it any time in your App Store or Google Play account settings. Cancelling stops the next charge; it does not refund the current period.
• If your membership lapses, Club-only items you already bought stay in your wardrobe, but you stop receiving the monthly allowance and the doubled daily bonus, and you can't buy new Club-only items until you rejoin.
• Anything you bought with earned Snowflakes is never affected by your membership.

Your penguin

Your penguin is created automatically, with no sign-up. Signing in is optional and is what lets it travel. That has consequences worth stating plainly:

• A guest penguin is tied to the browser or app you made it in. A different device is a different penguin.
• If you have not signed in, clearing your data loses that penguin permanently, and we cannot restore it — there is no account attached to recover from. Signing in is what protects against this.
• We may reset, adjust, or remove penguins, items, or scores where needed to fix bugs or deal with cheating.

How to behave on the island

Waddleton is a shared, family-friendly world. Please don't:

• Harass, bully, threaten, or be cruel to other players.
• Post anything sexual, hateful, violent, or otherwise unsuitable for a game younger players play.
• Share personal information — yours or anyone else's — in chat, a display name, or a report. Please don't use a real full name.
• Pretend to be someone else, including staff.
• Cheat, tamper with the game, submit fake scores, automate play, or attack the servers.
• Spam, advertise, or link people somewhere else.

You can mute or block any player at any time, and report someone who's being a problem. We may remove content, reset a name, or block access for behaviour that breaks these rules. Reports are recorded, but there is not a full-time moderation team reviewing them in real time — mute and block are immediate and are the fastest way to deal with someone.

Leaderboards

Shared leaderboards are live for fifteen of the seventeen games — the exceptions are Lazy Floe, which has no score to beat, and Bonkberg, whose shared board isn't switched on yet. A score is posted only when you beat your own personal best. For a teen or an adult it is posted under your display name, where every other player on that board can see it — so please don't use a real full name. For a player in the under-13 band it is posted under a penguin name the game generates, not one that player picked, and the score counts the same. We may remove any score or name that is offensive, impersonates someone, or looks fabricated, and we may reset a board. Scores are for fun: they carry no prize and no real-world value.

Age

Waddleton is designed to be suitable for a general audience. Before you play, it asks for the month and year you were born so it can put you in an age band. Those two numbers are not stored; the band is, and the privacy policy sets out exactly what is kept and where it goes. The band decides how chat works and what your penguin may be called. Beyond that the game asks for no personal information, and everything it sells is optional and decorative. If you are under the age where you can agree to terms on your own, please play with a parent or guardian's permission. Parents: please read the notes on chat and children in our privacy policy.

The game changes

Waddleton is actively being made. Areas, games, items, and events get added, changed, or taken away, and the game may be unavailable at times. We don't promise it will always be available, or that anything in it will stay the same.

Our stuff

The artwork, characters, music, code, and name of Waddleton belong to us. Please enjoy them in the game — screenshots and videos of your own play are very welcome — but don't copy the assets into your own project or claim them as your own.

No warranty

Waddleton is provided "as is," for fun. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim the warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement, and we are not liable for indirect or consequential damages — including a lost penguin — arising from your use of the game. Some jurisdictions do not allow these limitations, so they may not fully apply to you.

Changes

We may update these terms. Material changes will be posted here with a new date. Continuing to play after a change means you accept it.
