These terms govern your use of the Rowan app. By using Rowan, you agree to them. Please read the medical-disclaimer and emergency sections carefully — they are the ones that matter.

What Rowan is — and is not

Rowan is a general-wellness app that helps you organize, track, and understand your own health information, and prepare for appointments with your care team. It is not a medical device, and it is not medical care, not a diagnosis, not treatment, and not a substitute for professional advice. Using it does not create a clinician–patient or any other professional relationship. Always seek the advice of a qualified healthcare professional with any question about a medical condition, and never disregard or delay professional advice because of something you read in Rowan.

Rowan is an AI

Rowan is an artificial-intelligence companion — not a doctor, nurse, pharmacist, or licensed clinician, and not a person. It is disclosed as AI throughout the app. Like any AI, it can be wrong, incomplete, or wrong in a way that sounds confident. Do not rely on it for medical, legal, financial, or emergency decisions.

What Rowan will not do

These are product limits, enforced in the app, not just promises:

It does not diagnose, and does not offer a differential or suggest what a symptom means.
It gives no dosage guidance of any kind — it will never tell you to start, stop, change, or skip a medication.
It does not interpret laboratory results or vital signs against clinical thresholds, and does not describe any result as "abnormal."
It does not claim to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any condition.
It does not adopt a clinical persona, a title, or credentials it does not have.

Emergencies

Rowan is not an emergency service. It is not monitored by a human and it cannot contact anyone for you. If you are having a medical emergency, call 911 or your local emergency number now. If you are thinking about harming yourself, call or text 988 (US Suicide & Crisis Lifeline). Rowan surfaces emergency resources as a convenience, and never meters or paywalls doing so — but it is not a helpline and never a reason to wait.

Eligibility

Rowan is intended for adults 18 and older. By using it you confirm that you are at least 18. It is offered in the United States first; availability elsewhere is not guaranteed.

Your content

What you log stays yours. You grant us only the permission needed to operate the service on your behalf — to store your entries, send your messages to an AI provider so Rowan can reply, run an independent safety check on them (which also means sending them to an AI provider), and hand your device back what it needs to assemble the outputs you ask for, such as a visit brief. We do not sell or share your content, and we do not use it to advertise to you. You can export it or delete it at any time; see the privacy policy.

Purchases

Rowan is free to use, with conversation capped at 5 messages a day. Rowan Plus is an optional auto-renewing subscription that lifts that cap and answers with a more capable model. Its price and renewal terms are shown in the App Store before you buy, and billing is handled by Apple — subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the period ends, and you can manage or cancel in iOS Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions. Refunds go through reportaproblem.apple.com. Safety and emergency features are never placed behind a payment.

Preview access

The web preview is reached with an access code. That code keeps an unfinished build off the open internet; it is not authentication, does not pretend to be, and does not gate the app's own connection to our backend. Please do not put anything into the preview that you would not want stored under the terms of the privacy policy, and please do not share your access code.

Acceptable use

Please use Rowan only for your own personal, lawful health record-keeping. Don't attempt to misuse, attack, reverse-engineer, or disrupt the app or its backend; don't try to get it to produce medical directives it is built to refuse; and don't use it to harm yourself or anyone else. We may limit or end access that abuses the service.

No medical warranty

Rowan is provided "as is," for general wellness and informational purposes. We make no claim that it diagnoses, treats, cures, or prevents any condition, and no promise of any particular health outcome. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim the warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement, and we are not liable for indirect or consequential damages arising from your use of the app. Some jurisdictions do not allow these limitations, so they may not fully apply to you.

Changes

We may update these terms. Material changes will be posted here with a new date and may be noted in the App Store update notes. Continuing to use Rowan after a change means you accept it.
