Overview
Wingmate is operated by HyperSage AI Labs LLC ("we", "our", "us"), which is responsible for your data. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use the Wingmate mobile application.
Information We Collect
Chat messages. With your AI sharing permission, your message, recent coaching history and coaching preferences are sent to our server and relayed to our AI provider (see Third-Party Processing) to generate a reply. Your saved conversation history is stored on your iPhone, not on our server. Ordinary coaching requests are processed to produce a response and are not stored on our server. For Share and live keyboard replies, our server keeps the generated output for up to 30 minutes so a retry doesn’t cost another request (see Data Retention).
Screenshots and profile photos. Images you choose to share with a coach, including saved profile photos for a selected connection in the main app, are sent to our server and relayed to our AI provider to inform the coaching response. Raw submitted images are not stored on our servers. The Share extension receives only the images you explicitly share to it; saved profile photos from the main app are not exported to Share or the keyboard.
Screen images from the Wingmate keyboard. Starting with version 1.5.3, after you allow screen AI and confirm Apple’s screen-sharing prompt, Wingmate automatically requests one fresh still image for your first replies when the Replies panel is visible in the keyboard. This automatic request happens at most once per active sharing session. Each time you tap More replies, Get replies or Request a reply, Wingmate requests another fresh image. The image is sent to our server and relayed to Anthropic to suggest replies. There are no continuous uploads or automatic repeat requests as the screen changes. The image shows whatever is visible on your screen, which can include the other person's messages, photos and name, notification banners, the status bar and the Wingmate keyboard itself. See Optional Keyboard and Share Extension below.
Other people in your screenshots, screen images, text and saved connections. A conversation screenshot, or a screen image sent through screen assist, may include messages, names, or photos of the person you're talking to. A connection you save holds details about another person: their name, your notes about them, coach memories and any profile photos you add. These stay on your iPhone and are sent only as described under Connection data and Share extension. Text you paste or share, such as a copied chat, can also include the other person's messages and name. When you choose to send one, that content is processed by our AI provider to generate your coaching response, under the protections described in Third-Party Processing. Our server does not store what you send. Generated replies that may mention them are kept for up to 30 minutes (see Data Retention). Please only send images and text you're comfortable processing this way, and avoid sharing content about anyone who would object.
Device identifier. We generate and store a random device identifier. Our server uses it to track your free-tier usage, apply abuse-prevention limits and recognize retried requests. It is not an account or advertising identifier, but it links allowance and retry records to the same device. It is stored in your iPhone's Keychain, so it stays after you delete and reinstall Wingmate and can move to a new iPhone restored from an encrypted backup. Your subscription allowance is tracked by your verified Apple subscription transaction, not by this identifier. We treat the identifier as data linked to you, and we do not use it for tracking.
Subscription proof. If you subscribe, your requests to our server include Apple's signed record of your subscription transaction. It includes your App Store country, price and currency, the product and any offer you used, purchase and expiry dates, Apple transaction identifiers, whether it came through Family Sharing, a device-verification value Apple generates, and a random purchase token Wingmate attaches to your purchase. Our server checks Apple's signature and uses only the original transaction identifier, which stays the same across renewals and devices, as your subscription allowance key. Apple processes all purchases; we never receive your card or payment details.
IP address. Our server receives the IP address each request comes from. We use it only to enforce daily allowances and prevent abuse: we count AI requests per IP address for the current day, and each Share or live keyboard reply request record stores the address alongside your device or subscription identifier. How long these are kept is described under Data Retention.
Connection data. Information you enter about people you're talking to (such as names, notes, platforms and saved profile photos) is stored locally on your device. When you ask a coach for advice about a specific person and allow main-app AI sharing, the selected connection's details are included in that request: name, platform, where you met, first-date status, relationship stage, your notes and quick context, coach memories and saved profile photos. Coach memories are short facts the coach picks up from your chats, which Wingmate saves to that connection automatically. While that permission is on, Anthropic also helps generate openers and coach memories. Opening a connection that has no coach memories yet can automatically send that person's name and the text of your latest saved coaching conversation about them that has at least four messages to our server and Anthropic to create memories, without you tapping Send. Our server does not store the connection details you send. A generated reply or summary may reflect that context and is subject to the temporary retention below.
Information We Do Not Collect
- We do not require your real name, email address, or phone number; information included in messages, screenshots or screen images you send is processed with that content
- We do not access your contacts or browse your photo library. You choose photos and screenshots with Apple's photo picker, by pasting them, or by sharing them to Wingmate. The picker shares only the items you select, and Wingmate never asks for access to your photo library
- We do not save or upload video or audio of your screen. Screen assist runs inside an iOS screen-sharing session that you start; Wingmate ignores audio and discards frames except for at most one fresh still image for the automatic first reply request or a fresh request you make with More replies, Get replies or Request a reply
- The Wingmate iOS app does not include advertising or tracking SDKs. Website visit counting is described separately below
- We do not sell or rent your data, and we do not share it with advertisers or data brokers
How We Use Your Information
- To provide AI coaching responses to your messages
- To analyze screenshots you share, and screen images sent through screen assist, for coaching purposes
- To manage your subscription and free-tier usage limits, and to prevent abuse
- To maintain conversation continuity within coaching sessions
- To turn a coach reply into spoken audio when you tap Listen
- To suggest openers and to save short coach memories about a connection, including automatically when you open a connection that has none yet
- To recognize a retried request so you are not charged twice
Third-Party Processing
With your permission, we send the content needed for the requested feature through Wingmate's service to AI providers acting as our processors:
- Anthropic (Claude) receives messages, chosen screenshots, recent coaching history, coaching preferences and selected connection details for coaching, openers and coach memories. Selected connection details in the main app can include the name, platform, where you met, first-date status, relationship stage, your notes and quick context, coach memories and saved profile photos. From the Share extension, Anthropic receives the text and screenshots you share and your coaching preferences; with a saved connection, its name and platform, and its saved notes and details only if you turn them on. For the automatic first reply request or a fresh request you make in the Wingmate keyboard, Anthropic receives that one screen image and your chosen coach and reply preferences, with Wingmate’s coaching instructions; your device identifier and subscription proof stay with Wingmate’s server.
- OpenAI receives reply text and the chosen coach voice to generate new spoken audio, only when you tap Listen in the main app. Built-in coach introductions and audio already saved on your phone play without a new request. OpenAI receives nothing from the keyboard or the Share extension.
Hosting. Wingmate’s server and its encrypted storage are hosted by Fly.io in the United States (Ashburn, Virginia). Every request reaches our server through Fly.io’s network, so Fly.io carries its content, identifiers and IP address. The server records described under Data Retention are stored on Fly.io. Your connection may first reach a Fly.io edge server near you, which can be outside the United States and passes the request to our server in Virginia.
Voice input. When you use the microphone in the main app, Apple’s speech recognition turns your voice into text. Wingmate does not require on-device recognition, so your audio may be sent to Apple to transcribe it, under Apple’s privacy policy. Wingmate does not save the recording or send it to our server; only text you choose to send reaches us. Screen assist ignores audio.
We do not use your messages, screenshots or screen images to train models. Anthropic and OpenAI each receive only the data listed above, over encrypted connections, to generate the output you requested, to prevent abuse and to comply with the law. Anthropic processes this data under its Commercial Terms of Service and the Data Processing Addendum incorporated into them, which prohibit training its models on it, limit its processing to providing the service on our instructions, and require appropriate security measures and a duty of confidentiality for anyone who handles it.
Under Anthropic’s published retention policy for API customers, Anthropic deletes API inputs and outputs within 30 days. The exceptions are data Anthropic needs to keep longer to enforce its Usage Policy (inputs and outputs its systems flag as violating it are kept for up to 2 years, with related safety classification scores for up to 7 years) and data the law requires it to keep longer. To reduce cost, Anthropic may also cache the repeated start of a request, such as coaching instructions, connection details and earlier messages and images in a chat, for about 5 minutes after its last use, so your next message can reuse it. That cache is not shared with other Anthropic customers.
Under our API settings, OpenAI does not use the data we send it to train or improve its models. OpenAI keeps abuse-monitoring logs, which can include the text sent, for up to 30 days, unless the law requires longer retention or longer retention is reasonably necessary to protect its services or others from harm.
Unlike our server, which does not store the messages, screenshots or screen images you send, Anthropic and OpenAI may keep what they receive for the limited periods above. This provider retention is separate from Wingmate’s temporary reply cache described below. We do not sell your data or share it with advertisers or data brokers.
Same or equal protection. Anthropic and OpenAI receive only the data they need to answer your requests, under commercial API terms that limit their use of it to providing that service to us (and to abuse monitoring and legal compliance) and that require confidentiality and security. We confirm that they protect your data to the same or an equal standard as this policy describes and as Apple’s App Store Review Guidelines require. Neither may sell it or use it for advertising. Fly.io hosts our server. Its terms let it use the data we host only to provide and improve its hosting service, and its privacy statement says it does not sell personal information.
Your AI Permissions
Starting with version 1.5, the main app asks before any AI feature sends content. One screen, Allow AI coaching?, names Anthropic (Claude) for coaching and OpenAI for read-aloud and says what each receives. What’s shared on that screen gives the full list. Choose Allow to turn on those requests, or Not now to keep browsing saved conversations and using features that work on your device. In Settings > Privacy > Main app AI sharing, use Review AI permission when sharing is off or Turn off AI sharing when it is on. Turning it off blocks new main-app AI requests and cancels active connections; it cannot recall information already sent. It does not erase saved conversations or stop built-in introductions and saved audio from playing.
The Share extension and the keyboard’s screen assist each ask for their own separate permission. The Share sheet asks Allow AI sharing? and offers Allow AI sharing or Not now. The keyboard offers Allow in the Replies panel (VoiceOver: Allow screen AI); in the app, Settings > Wingmate Keyboard > Review screen AI offers Allow keyboard AI sharing. Granting or turning off any one of the three permissions (main app, Share and keyboard screen AI) does not change the others. None of them is granted by accepting onboarding terms, and keyboard Full Access and the iOS screen-sharing prompt are separate from all three. Version 1.5.3 asks people who previously allowed screen AI to review and allow the updated permission before automatic first replies can run. See the keyboard and Share controls below.
Optional Keyboard and Share Extension
Typing and saved replies. The keyboard never sends your keystrokes as text. Text you type reaches us only as part of something you send in Wingmate or Share (plus the automatic coach-memory request described under Connection data), or when it is visible on screen in an image sent through screen assist. From Wingmate’s shared storage the keyboard reads prepared replies with their coach guidance, context summary, conversation label and platform; your coach and reply preferences; and the screen assist permission and session status, including the screen image handed over for a reply request. To send that request, it also reads your device identifier and subscription proof from Wingmate’s shared Keychain. Like other keyboards, it can inspect text near the cursor, selected text and the current document identifier to support typing and prevent accidental replacement; that information stays on your device and is never sent as text. Typing and saved replies work without Full Access or screen assist.
Full Access. Live coaching needs an internet connection, so the keyboard asks you to turn on Allow Full Access in iPhone Settings. With Full Access on and your screen AI permission, the keyboard contacts our server for the automatic first reply request during a sharing session, when you tap More replies, Get replies or Request a reply, or when you tap Try again after a request that did not finish. It does not send your keystrokes and does not read your clipboard or contacts.
Screen assist. Screen assist uses Apple’s screen-sharing controls, which you confirm yourself; iOS shows a recording indicator while sharing runs. On iOS 27 and later, turn it on in Wingmate and choose Share Entire Screen, then return to your chat. On earlier iOS versions, use Apple’s record button and confirm Start Broadcast. Screen assist needs its own screen AI permission and Full Access. After sharing starts, Wingmate makes at most one automatic first reply request when the keyboard’s Replies panel is visible. Further fresh requests require More replies, Get replies or Request a reply. For each fresh request, Wingmate takes at most one frame captured after the request begins, reduces it to at most 1280 pixels on its longest side and 1 MB, and passes it to the keyboard. Allowing screen AI or Full Access alone does not start screen sharing. Wingmate does not save video, ignores audio and sends no continuous stream.
What is sent. The keyboard sends that one image, your chosen coach and reply preferences, your Wingmate device identifier and, if you subscribe, Apple’s signed subscription proof to our server. The server uses the identifier and proof only to check your coaching allowance, apply abuse-prevention limits and recognize retries, and relays the image and preferences to Anthropic, which writes up to three suggested replies. Live keyboard requests do not include saved connections, notes, profile photos, coaching history or the text around your cursor, although a draft that is visible on screen can appear in the image. If a request does not finish, Try again resends the same image and request instead of capturing a new screen.
What the image can show. The frame is your whole visible screen, not only the chat. It can include the other person’s messages, photos and name, notification banners from other apps, the status bar and the Wingmate keyboard panel. It is not cropped or redacted before it is sent; our coach is instructed to ignore notifications and unrelated interface content. Screen assist works only from what is visible in that image, plus your coach and reply preferences. It cannot open a profile you haven’t opened, retrieve hidden or earlier messages, or look up who someone is beyond a name or photo the screen already shows.
You decide what is sent to your match. Suggestions appear in the keyboard. Wingmate never sends a message for you: choosing a suggestion inserts it into the text box, where you can edit it and decide whether to send it.
Stopping and withdrawing. A screen assist session ends after 15 minutes, or sooner when you stop it in the Wingmate keyboard or from the iOS recording indicator. Continuing after that needs a new start through the iOS prompt. To withdraw the screen AI permission, tap Turn off screen AI in the keyboard, or open Wingmate and choose Turn off keyboard AI sharing in Settings > Privacy or Settings > Wingmate Keyboard. Withdrawing in the keyboard stops any request still waiting on your device, clears the screen assist suggestions shown in the keyboard, discards replies that arrive afterwards and asks the recording to stop; if the iOS recording indicator is still showing, stop the recording there. A withdrawal made in the Wingmate app takes effect in the keyboard the next time the keyboard checks its status, so an upload already under way can still reach our server. A request our server has already received may still be processed, and its result kept for up to 30 minutes as described under Data Retention. Saved replies from the app or Share stay in the keyboard until they expire or you clear them. You can also turn off Full Access or remove the keyboard in iPhone Settings > General > Keyboard > Keyboards. Stopping or withdrawing cannot recall an image that was already sent.
Share extension. When you share text or screenshots to Wingmate, you review that content and choose whether to send it to Anthropic for reply suggestions. Saved connections appear in Share only if you turn on Offer my saved connections in Share in Settings > Wingmate Keyboard. That copies the name, platform and a summary of each connection you haven’t archived (up to 200) into the Share extension on your device. The summary holds the relationship stage, where you met, first-date status, quick context, your notes and coach memories. If you choose a person in the Share sheet, your request includes their name, platform and a random identifier Wingmate gives that connection. Our server uses the identifier only to check the request; it is not passed to Anthropic and is not stored. Turning on Include saved connection notes also sends that summary, shortened if it is long, to our server and Anthropic. Profile photos and coaching conversations are not sent from Share. The Share extension uses the same device identity and subscription allowance as the main app. Your permission to send shared content to Anthropic is remembered. You can turn it off with Turn off AI sharing in the Share sheet or Turn off Share AI sharing in Settings > Privacy. This stops future preparation requests and does not undo a request you already sent.
Data Storage and Security
Your connection profiles, conversations and saved openers are stored locally on your device with iOS complete file protection. Saved profile photos and app preferences are stored locally under iOS’s standard data protection, which also encrypts them. The temporary file that passes a screen image from screen assist to the keyboard uses iOS complete file protection and is excluded from device backups. Messages and images sent to our servers travel over encrypted HTTPS connections.
Data Retention
Your conversation transcripts, connections, saved profile photos and saved openers are stored on your iPhone, not on our server. They are included in your iCloud or computer backups if you use them, and deleting them in Wingmate does not remove copies from backups you already made. They stay until you delete them: a connection, with its photos and memories, from its own screen, and conversations and prepared keyboard replies in Settings. Deleting Wingmate removes them from your iPhone. Your device identifier, and a copy of Apple’s subscription proof if you subscribed, stay in your iPhone’s Keychain. Prepared replies stop being available in the keyboard after 30 minutes; local file contents are replaced when cleared or superseded.
Screen assist on your device. A captured frame waits in the protected handoff file until the keyboard picks it up, or until the request is cancelled, expires or screen assist stops. It is usable for no more than 10 seconds after the fresh-frame request begins. It is removed when the keyboard uses it, when the request is cancelled or replaced, and when screen assist stops. If iOS closes Wingmate’s processes before then, the expired leftover is cleared the next time you open the Wingmate app or start screen assist. While a request is in progress or can still be retried, the keyboard holds the image in its memory. It releases it when suggestions arrive, when a new fresh-image request replaces it, or when you turn off screen AI or Full Access. Otherwise, once 30 minutes have passed since capture and a retry could no longer return a result, the keyboard releases the image at its next status check. It checks when it appears, when you move to another text field and every second while its coaching panel is open. A keyboard that stays hidden holds the image until it next appears, unless iOS closes it first. Suggestions shown in the keyboard stop being available after 30 minutes.
On our server. For Share and live keyboard replies, our server does not write your screenshots, screen images or request text to storage; they are held in memory only while your replies are being prepared. Our backend stores the generated drafts, a short generated context summary and the coach’s explanation for up to 30 minutes after the request, so a retry can return the same result without using another coaching message; after that, only an expiry notice remains. A record of each request is kept for 24 hours to prevent duplicate processing and double charges, then deleted. It is made up of a hashed request identifier, a hash of the request content, your device or subscription identifier, the IP address the request came from, your allowance state, when the request was made and its outcome. For the first 30 minutes the outcome is the generated result, which also holds the request’s random identifiers and the coach used; after that only an expiry notice or error remains. Requests can also carry a random identifier for the conversation or the selected connection, which is not stored. Daily usage counts, kept per device or subscription and per IP address for all AI requests, are removed at the first AI request after midnight UTC. If the server restarts after midnight, it drops them from memory at once and from the stored file at that first request; a restart during the day reloads the day’s counts.
Expired output is removed from our stored file on startup, access, writes and a timer while the server is running normally. If the server is stopped, or its storage has an error that needs repair, removal waits until normal operation resumes. Scheduled snapshots of our server storage are turned off, and the storage is encrypted. A snapshot taken by hand for maintenance could hold earlier copies until it is deleted. AI provider retention is described under Third-Party Processing. To request help with deletion of retained data, contact support@hypersage.ai. You can stop using Share or screen assist and withdraw either AI permission at any time; existing temporary output continues to expire on the schedule above.
