Terms of use

Plain rules, written to be readable. We enforce these — an unenforced policy is worse than no policy, and we would rather say less and mean it.

Who can use Mythkin

You must be 18 or older. You confirm this when you set the app up. If you are under 18, Mythkin is not for you.

What Mythkin is

Mythkin is entertainment: fictional characters powered by AI. Characters are not people. They are not therapists, doctors, lawyers or financial advisers, and nothing a character says is professional advice. See Safety for how we handle difficult conversations.

What you may create

You can create original characters, and characters drawn from mythology, folklore, and public-domain works. You may not create:

• Characters who are minors, or who are written or drawn to read as under 18. This is an absolute rule with no artistic exception.
• Sexual or sexually explicit characters or content of any kind. Mythkin has no adult tier and will not have one.
• Living public figures, and real people who have not agreed — and anyone who died in 1950 or later, whatever their fame. The cutoff is a date, not a judgement: an actor who died in 1962 is refused because the estate and the right of publicity outlive the person, while Cleopatra, Socrates, the American founders and Marie Curie are allowed and make up most of the catalogue. Architects of genocide or mass atrocity are refused whatever their dates. You may paint a kin from photographs of yourself, of somebody you know personally who has given you their permission, or of someone who has died. You may not upload a photograph of a living person who has not agreed to it, and if they later ask you to remove the kin, you must. A kin painted from a photograph can never be shared, borrowed or published — it stays in your own library — and the photograph itself is deleted as soon as the painting is made.
• Characters built to harass, impersonate a licensed professional, promote hatred against a group, or encourage self-harm.
• Characters that infringe someone else's copyright or trademark.

We screen at creation and again at publication, and we review reports. We may remove a character, and we may suspend a device that repeatedly breaks these rules.

Characters you publish

• You keep ownership of what you write. Publishing gives us permission to host, display and distribute it inside Mythkin so other people can find and borrow it.
• Anyone can borrow a character you publish. Their conversations are theirs. You will see counts, never words.
• You can unpublish at any time. People who have already borrowed keep their own conversations; the character stops appearing in the marketplace.
• Do not publish something you would not want a stranger to talk to.

Subscriptions

Mythkin is free to use with limits. Mythkin Plus is a subscription billed through Apple, which auto-renews until cancelled. Cancel through your App Store account — we cannot cancel it for you. Prices shown in the app are always the ones the store charges. Refunds are handled by the store under its own policy.

Sparks are a planned second purchase, separate from the subscription, and they are not on sale yet. If they are offered, a spark will pay for one painting — a scene moment or a story cover — bought in packs, never expiring, and consumed as you spend them. Because a spark is a consumable it would not be restored by "Restore purchases", so a balance is tied to the Apple ID that bought it; if an app reinstall cannot reach yours, contact us and we will put it back. Refunds, again, are the store's to give.

Mythkin is currently an iPhone app. Where these terms mention an app store, that means Apple's; if an Android build ships later, Google Play will be added here before it does.

What we ask of you

Do not try to break the app, scrape it, resell access to it, or use it to build a competing dataset. Do not use it to harass another person. Do not attempt to get a character to produce content these terms prohibit.

What we do not promise

AI models make things up, including about you. A character can be wrong, inconsistent, or forget something it should have remembered. We work hard on memory, and it is still not a database of your life. Mythkin is provided as-is, without warranty, and our liability is limited to the amount you have paid us in the past twelve months, to the extent the law allows.

Ending things

You can stop at any time and delete everything from inside the app. We can suspend or end access for a serious or repeated breach of these terms, and we will say why unless we are legally prevented from doing so.

Changes

If we change these terms materially, we will tell you in the app before the change takes effect.
