You choose what you're stepping away from, and when you started, the first time you open Alder. What isn't built yet is changing those afterwards: the "What I'm quitting" row shows what you picked but doesn't open — there's no editor yet. It's designed so that correcting a date recalculates your count and your milestones without costing you your total time across all attempts, and it's near the front of the queue. Email us if a wrong clock is blocking you.
That's your call — nothing is mandatory. If you do log it, the debrief won't scold you, and your total time across every attempt keeps counting. If you'd rather talk to a person first, the SAMHSA line above is free and open all night.
Neither of the things designed for this works yet — please don't count on them today. A discreet alternate icon is drawn and bundled, but there's no setting to switch it on, so the home screen still shows Alder. And Alder sends no notifications at all right now; when it does, they're meant to be worded so nothing on a lock screen names recovery or a substance. Until then, use your phone's own passcode or Face ID, and hide or remove the app if you need to.
Both live in settings: export your full record to keep it, or delete everything. Deleting the app removes all on-device data as well. Details in the privacy policy.
Email support@hypersage.ai with what you saw and what you were doing. Screenshots help — crop out anything you'd rather not share.
Billing and subscriptions
Alder is free to use. There is an optional subscription, Alder Plus (US$9.99/month or US$59.99/year, auto-renewing, billed by Apple). Plus lifts the daily limit on everyday conversation and answers with Alder's most capable model. Your counter, check-ins, urge log, milestones and the slip debrief are never paywalled. To restore a purchase on a new device, open Alder’s settings and tap Restore Purchases. To cancel, go to Settings › your name › Subscriptions on your device — cancelling stops the next renewal and Plus stays active until the period you paid for ends. Billing questions Apple handles (refunds, payment methods) go through reportaproblem.apple.com; anything else, email us.
The SOS screen, the crisis numbers, and every safety conversation stay outside Plus — always. A crisis, an overdose or withdrawal concern, an active craving, or telling Alder you used is never metered or paywalled, whether or not you subscribe.
For reviewers & press
If you're a journalist or reviewer looking at Alder, reach out at support@hypersage.ai. Alder is a self-help companion — it does not provide therapy, counseling, or clinical care, does not diagnose, and gives no detox or dosing guidance. It is 18+, discloses that it's an AI, never shames a lapse, and keeps crisis resources reachable before a user has agreed to anything.
Where your data goes
The full picture is in our privacy policy, and it is worth two minutes. Short version: no account, no ads, no third-party analytics, nothing sold or shared. Your recovery record is kept on your device and we run no database of it — but a slice of it is sent with every message you write to Alder, because that is how the reply knows who you are: your name and tone, what you're quitting and your day counts, your reasons in your own words, your people's first names, your last seven check-ins, and anything you've said about heavy use or a prescriber-managed taper. It goes to our backend and on to Anthropic (Claude), the only AI provider Alder uses. Your words are not used to train models, the conversation is kept at most 30 days, and "Delete everything" in the app erases both sides. We don't claim a confidentiality the law doesn't give us — Alder is not HIPAA-covered and not a 42 CFR Part 2 program, and we say so.
